The John Waller Concert presented a thrilling challenge in maximizing the impact of a limited array of smart fixtures, while still ensuring an immersive experience for both the artist and the audience. Despite the absence of a setlist or complete song list during programming, I adeptly utilized pre-patched fixtures in the venue, augmenting the design with strategic placements. Dropping down 3 movers, 6 LED pars, and 8 pars from the Catwalk to the Stage, I sought to enhance the ambiance, though I faced some unintended effects due to the positioning of the movers.
Operating with a Pathway lighting console, I encountered difficulties in executing moving effects seamlessly. Additionally, lighting the instrumentalists posed a challenge, as I was initially unaware of their presence. Although I managed to illuminate the main artist effectively, the instrumentalists were somewhat neglected, requiring improvisation with follow spots and a need for better front and back lighting.
Despite these hurdles, I navigated within the constraints of the venue's permissions and equipment availability, ensuring readiness for subsequent services. With only two truss poles at my disposal, I maximized the setup to create a visually captivating environment, underscoring the importance of preparedness and adaptability in such dynamic settings.Â
